I’m Charlie Moore — furniture builder, designer, professor of wood trades, and owner/operator of BrassApple, a furniture design-build studio based in Charleston, South Carolina.

Woodworking found me early in high school. I was introduced to the fundamentals of building, and something just clicked. What began as a spark of curiosity grew into a lifelong pursuit of craft, design, and the mechanics of how things go together. I’m mostly self-taught, guided by a deep love of design, a drive to explore, and a hands-on understanding of materials, tools, and traditional joinery.

My design approach blends history with invention. I’m fascinated by the evolution of furniture and the functionality behind each form. I work through a hands-on, additive process: from sketch, to scale drawing, to scale model. This “à la carte” method allows me to tailor each piece to the client, blending their needs and style with my craft.

Every day in the shop is a learning experience. I’m constantly growing, refining, and pushing my understanding of process and material. I rely on traditional, time-honored techniques — the kind that ensure a piece not only looks good, but will last for generations. I’ve developed a deep respect for the discipline and detail required to build truly fine furniture.

For the past 10 years, I’ve also served as Professor of Wood Trades at the American College of the Building Arts in Charleston. Teaching has become a powerful extension of my practice — deepening my knowledge while allowing me to pass on skills, insight, and appreciation for the craft to the next generation of makers.

At BrassApple, I create custom furniture that’s built to be used, appreciated, and passed down. Each piece is a collaboration of form, function, and story — one that begins with understanding your space and ends with something meaningful you will live with for years to come.
